Wallpaper Backsplash
Hello again!
We are currently renting a basement apartment and have some restrictions as to what we can do to the apartment. I was getting so sick of my boring, old kitchen. But since I can't change the countertops, appliances, cabinets, lights, CARPET (ew huh), or put in a real backsplash, I found this super easy removable "peel & stick" wallpaper from target! It is so cute! I bought 2 of them just to make sure I had enough, especially since I'm always messing up on DIY projects some way or another...BUT!!!!! I didn't mess up at all with this one! *High five*
This is what the wall looked like before. Well, ACTUALLY, the kitchen was painted a horrible yellowish color when we moved in (almost the same color as the counter top) but since the kitchen was so hideous I don't have any photos to show you (gee i wonder why I didn't take any pictures in there...) Anyway, with permission we painted the walls light gray and the ceiling white.
There will be some bubbles you need to smooth out. And if your wall is textured, like ours, little bubbles will be inevitable. Sorry. Hopefully it won't bug you too much. I only notice ours when light is shining on it a certain way. It doesn't bother me though.
Being in an old apartment with old cabinets (old everything), we came to realize that our cabinet was not straight. So we kept the wallpaper going onto the side of the cabinet, and then just sliced it down the side so that it measured along the cabinet.
And like I said before, it's removable. It peeled off the side of the cabinet with ease.

I tried my hardest to do this project by myself. It was my project and I didn't want my husband to feel like he was dragged into it. But when it came down to applying it onto the wall... I'm short. And my arms are short. I needed a helper... a tall helper. And of course he helped with a smile :)
Make sure your measurements are correct before cutting the pieces. You need something to smooth it down with, at first I grabbed a DVD case, but the credit card is what worked best for us.

When it comes to outlets and light switches, you can do one of two things:
1. Measure and cut around the plate
or
2. Take the plate off and just cut around the outlet
We did #2 because it didn't matter if my cut wasn't straight. The plate covers the bad cut just fine.
Ta da! Nothing fancy.. but nice looking, easy, and now our kitchen is *slightly* customized!
